The Daimon (Spirit) of the Dead was a powerful force capable of being harnessed by Graeco-Egyptian sorcerers and sorceresses to overcome seemingly insurmountable obstacles for love spells and for obtaining vengeance on behalf of those wrongfully accused. The Daimon of the Dead was also one of the sources of power so skillfully employed by Medea, a powerful witch and priestess of Hekate, and the niece of the great witch Circe.

In ancient times, everyone was thought to have special powers at the moment of death. The embodiment of these powers, known as the Daimon of the Dead, was capable of going into the Underworld to contact deities, the dearly departed, and also the spirits of those still living.
